New York, NY (March 30, 2018)—The Academy of American Poets is pleased to announce a new partnership with News-2-You for National Poetry Month, the annual April celebration it founded in 1996. News-2-You provides special education software and tools to help teachers, school administrators, speech-language pathologists, and parents enable students with special needs to access general education curriculum.
In advance of this April, the Academy of American Poets worked with News-2-You to develop a special, extended edition of the weekly News-2-You newspaper, featuring an article about poetry and National Poetry Month, the poem “Clouds,” and a series of discussion questions and other poetry-related activities. Each of these components is symbol-adapted for learners with speech, language, and other learning difficulties. This National Poetry Month edition of News-2-You will help make poetry and information about poets accessible to students with unique learning needs.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate National Poetry Month with the students News-2-You reaches, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to work with a partner dedicated to sharing the arts and poetry with special populations,” said Academy of American Poets Executive Director Jennifer Benka.
