In 1923, Oregon established a state poet laureate position, which is currently held by Kim Stafford, who was appointed to a two-year term in 2018. Stafford is the author of several books of poetry, including Legacy of Beginning: Poems in Bhutan (Larkspur Press, 2013).

In 2018, Linda Aldrich was named poet laureate of Portland, Oregon. She will serve a two-year term.
