In December 2015, Governor Jack Markell appointed the Twin Poets, Nnamdi Chukwuocha and Albert Mills, as the seventeenth poets laureate of the state of Delaware. Respected poets on the spoken word scene, Chukwuocha and Mills have performed with poets such as Chinua Achebe, Amiri Baraka, the Last Poets, Haki Madhubuti, Walter Mosley, and Sonia Sanchez.

Salisbury Poetry Week Kick-Off at The Brick Room
Celebrate National Poetry Month by joining us as we kick-off Salisbury Poetry Week with an evening of readings & performances by poets from all across Delmarva. The event boasts a broad array of poetic styles and presentations, culminating with an open mic showcase. This event is 21+

Amber Green - Founder and facilitator of Fenix Youth Project, which encourages Salisbury youth to speak out through poetry and leadership, and a spoken word artist in her own right. 
Jermichael Mitchell - Poet, Author, Event Coordinator, Philanthropist, Radio Personality, Community & Youth Activist; President of KIDZ Reaching our Children Youth Basketball Program, (“KIDZ R.O.C.”) a non-profit organization where young people learn life skills and build strong moral values through teamwork; Vice-President of the Extraordinary League of Gentleman (E.L.O.G. Incorporated), encouraging young men to develop etiquette, diversity, and interpersonal relationships through arts & culture; created the Salisbury Lions P.R.I.D.E. Club.
Linda Blaskey - poetry editor for The Broadkill Review and coordinator for the Dogfish Head Poetry Prize. Her work has been selected for Best New Poets 2014 and for Raleigh, NC’s Poetry on the Bus Project. She has twice been a recipient of fellowship grants from Delaware Division of Arts.
Blake Burkhead - B. E. Burkhead is a poet, writer and artist. He lives on the vestigial tail of Maryland with his wife, son and an army of starving cats. His first book of poetry, The Underside of the Rainbow, was released in 2015 on Raw Dog Screaming Press.
Ash'Iz Tha Rebirth (Ashley Cuffee) - an Alternative Health Crystal Practitioner whose spoken word poetry is created to revive, reveal, and foster a healing rebirth of the spirit. Currently working on a monologue called “Invisible Me” based on her debut book of autobiographical poems, A Piece of Me, Brings Peace to Me.
Sherry Chappelle - 2011 winner of the Dogfish Head Poetry Prize for the chapbook, Salmagundi
Nancy Mitchell - Special Features Editor of Plume Magazine, the author of three volumes of poetry, and the winner of a 2011 Pushcart Prize. Her recent publications include Big Muddy, The Superstition Review, and forthcoming in the Columbia College Literary Review.
