In a new post on her Brain Pickings blog, Maria Popova asks how one vacations like a poet and finds the answer in a 1994 postcard from Derek Walcott, from the Academy of American Poets archive. Popova takes a look at the postcard, which Walcott sent to the Academy from Antigua shortly after he won the Nobel Prize in Literature. “Hello you poor fools,” Walcott begins his facetious address, then follows with a “map of daily responsibilities in the sun,” which includes a goodhearted, bragging account of how he spends his leisurely time on the island.
