Sean Hill

Sean Hill was born and raised in Milledgeville, Georgia.

Hill is the author of Dangerous Goods (Milkweed Editions, 2014), which won the Minnesota Book Award in Poetry, and Blood Ties & Brown Liquor (University of Georgia Press, 2008). His poetry and nonfiction prose have appeared in Callaloo, Harvard Review, New England Review, Orion, Oxford American, Poetry magazine, and Tin House, among other journals. His work has also appeared in more than two dozen anthologies, including Villanelles (Everyman’s Library, 2012), edited by Annie Finch, and Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry (University of Georgia Press, 2009), edited by Camille T. Dungy.

Hill has received fellowships from the Cave Canem Foundation, the MacDowell Colony, and the National Endowment for the Arts. He was also the recipient of a Wallace Stegner Fellowship from Stanford University. 

Hill has served as the director of the Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference at Bemidji State University since 2012. He is a consulting editor at Broadsided Press, a monthly broadside publisher. He has taught at several universities, including the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Georgia Southern University. He is currently an assistant professor of creative writing at the University of Montana.
