Natalie Clifford Burney

Natalie Clifford Barney was born on October 31, 1876, in Dayton, Ohio. During her lifetime, she published five poetry collections, including Poems & Poèmes: Autres Alliances (Emile Paul, 1920) and The One Who Is Legion (Eric Partridge, 1930). She also published three volumes of epigrams, two essay collections, one novel, and three memoirs. She died on February 2, 1972, at her home in Paris, France.

As I must mount to feed those doves of ours,  
Perhaps you too will spend nocturnal hours   
      Upon your roof   
      So high aloof 
That from its terraced bowers   
We catch at clouds and draw a bath from showers.  
Before the moon has made all pale the night,  
Let's meet with flute and viol, and supper
