Marya Zaturenska

Marya Zaturenska was born in Kiev, Ukraine on September 12, 1902. She came to the United States at the age of eight with her parents who settled in New York City. After attending high school in the evenings so she might work in a factory during the day, she was accepted to Valapariso University in Indiana. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating from the Wisconsin Library School in 1925. She is the author of eight volumes of poetry including Cold Morning Sky (MacMillan, 1937), which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1938. She died on January 19, 1982 in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts.
