Edward Snow

Edward Snow is a professor, writer, and translator. He has published several translations of Rainer Maria Rilke’s work with North Point Press, including Uncollected Poems (1996); The Book of Images (1994); New Poems [1908]: The Other Part (1987); and New Poems [1907] (1984), winner of the 1985 Harold Morton Landon Translation Award. He has also published a translation of Rilke’s 1905 work The Book of Hours (W. W. Norton, 2024) in a dual-language edition. Snow is also the author of Inside Bruegel: The Play of Images in Children’s Games (North Point Press, 1997) and A Study of Vermeer (University of California Press, 1979; revised and expanded, 1994). 

Snow is the recipient of an Academy of Arts and Letters Award for the body of his Rilke translations, as well as the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation.

Snow is a professor of English at Rice University and lives in Houston, Texas.
