Hilda Conkling

1986

Hilda Conkling was born in New York state in 1910. Her poetry, which she composed between the ages of four and fourteen, is collected in Poems by a Little Girl (Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1920), Shoes of the Wind (Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1922), and Silverhorn, the Hilda Conkling Book for Other Children (Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1924). Hilda’s mother, poet Grace Hazard Conkling, transcribed all of Hilda’s poems, which she ceased composing altogether in her adulthood. She died on June 26, 1986.
