Mimi Khalvati

Mimi Khalvati was born in Tehran on April 28, 1944, and raised on the Isle of Wight. She attended the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland and the Drama Centre and the School of African and Oriental Studies in London. A poet, actor, translator, and director, Khalvati is the author of numerous collections of poetry including The Weather Wheel (Carcanet Press Ltd., 2014); The Meanest Flower (Carcanet Press Ltd., 2007), which was named a Financial Times Book of the Year and shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize; and Mirrorwork (Carcanet Press Ltd., 1995), which received an Arts Council of England Writer’s Award. She is the recipient of fellowships from the Royal Literary Fund at City University, the International Writing Program in Iowa, and the American School in London, as well as awards from the Society of Authors and Poetry Business. Founder of The Poetry School and former Poet in Residence at the Royal Mail, Khalvati is a fellow at the Royal Society of Literature and a freelance instructor of creative writing.
