Larry Woiwode
Appointed in 1995, Larry Woiwode is the author of eight novels and a collection of poetry entitled Even Tide. He has been a Guggenheim Fellow, a John Dos Passos Prize winner, a recipient of awards from the William Faulkner Foundation and the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, and a nominee for both the National Book Critics Circle and National Book Awards.

North Dakota Humanities Council
The North Dakota Humanities Council is an independent state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The NDHC supports public initiatives that create opportunities to think critically about fundamental issues of the human experience in order to understand and enhance American culture.

Read North Dakota is dedicated to celebrating and promoting literature created in and about North Dakota. It encourages readers, writers, and educators to enjoy good literature rooted in our own place by identifying relevant book titles and authors on a web site, in printed materials, and through public events and discussion groups.

North Dakota Council on the Arts
he North Dakota Council on the Arts (NDCA) is a service and program agency of the state, established in 1967 by the State Legislature to develop the arts and to promote and support the arts in North Dakota. Over 75 percent of the NDCA budget is awarded to organizations and individuals through its various grant programs. The NDCA also supports the State Tree Lighting Ceremony each December, a biennial State Arts Conference and Artist's Showcase, and the biennial Governor's Awards for the Arts. The NDCA partners with a variety of state agencies and non-profit organizations throughout the state in the presentation and support of arts-related programs.

North Valley Arts Council
The North Valley Arts Council began in 1986 as a volunteer organization under the name of the Greater Grand Forks Arts and Humanities Association. The North Valley Arts Council (NoVAC) supports and promotes arts and culture for artists, arts organizations, and citizens of Greater Grand Forks. NoVAC staff create professional development programs, networking opportunities, calendaring services, advocacy events, and information resource services. In 2008, NoVAC assumed responsibility for management of the Grand Cities Art Fest.

Culture Pulse
CulturePulse is the North Dakota Statewide Arts Calendar. CulturePulse began in Grand Forks, ND, in the spring of 2006, and spread to Fargo in the fall of 2008. Listings include events, resources, arts organizations, and artists.

Annual Dakota Cowboy Poetry Gathering
Since 1987, cowboy poets have met at the Dakota Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Medora. The participants gather together every year to keep the tradition of cowboy poetry alive.

University of North Dakota Writers Conference
An annual conference with panel discussions and readings by poets and writers on a specific topic.

University of North Dakota
The University of North Dakota Department of English offers a varied program of studies in English and American literature, writing, and the English language. The academic atmosphere is intimate, class size for graduate courses is small, and students are encouraged to work closely with members of the graduate faculty. The Department publishes the North Dakota Quarterly, and sponsors an annual week-long writers conference that gives graduate students a chance to hear contemporary writers read their work and discuss the writing process.

Red River Valley Writing Project
The Red River Valley Writing Project (RRVWP)is a site of the National Writing Project (NWP), a professional development program devoted to teaching writing. The National Writing Project has been federally funded since 1990. The goal of the national project is to improve student writing abilities by improving the teaching and learning of writing in the nation's schools, provide professional development programs for classroom teachers and expand the professional roles of teachers. As a site of the National Writing Project, Red River Valley Writing Project (RRVWP) hosts an invitational summer institute. The institute offers you a place to read, discuss, and share ideas about teaching writing -- plus time to write.

Dickinson State University
The Department of Language and Literature offers courses that form a major cornerstone of a liberal arts education at Dickinson State University. The programs of study in the department help improve the students’ abilities to be able to write and think critically and imaginatively as citizens of a global community and understand the languages and cultures that contribute to the global fabric of our society. Writing degrees include a BA in writing as well as a minor in writing.

North Dakota State University
NDSU English Department recognizes that languages and literatures are prime expressions of cultures, and it is dedicated to exploring what connects cultures as well as what distinguishes them. The graduate program offers an MA in Composition or Literature. The composition option offers students grounding in the theory, teaching, and research of writing in a variety of settings, and allows students the opportunity to extend writing competency in academic, professional, and creative writing.
