Peter Anthony Motteux

Peter Anthony Motteux, born Pierre Antoine Motteux on February 25, 1663, in Rouen, France, was an English journalist, playwright, and translator. He was the publisher and editor of The Gentleman’s Journal from 1692 to 1694; the author of Love’s Triumph (1708), Beauty in Distress (1698), and Love’s a Jest (1696), among other titles; and the translator of multiple works by Miguel de Cervantes. He died on February 18, 1718, in London.
