Francisco Acuña de Figueroa

Francisco Acuña de Figueroa, born on September 3, 1791, in Montevideo, was a Uruguayan poet and writer. He is the author of the lyrics of the national anthem of Uruguay, “Orientales, la Patria o la Tumba,” and the national anthem of Paraguay, “Paraguayos, República o Muerte.” His Obras completas was published posthumously by Vázquez Cores, Donaleche y Reyes in 1890. He died on October 6, 1862.
