Raiziss/de Palchi Translation Awards |
 |
Established in 1995, this award recognizes outstanding translations into English of modern Italian poetry through a $10,000 book prize and a $25,000 fellowship, given in alternating years. The fellowship is given to enable an American translator to travel, study, or otherwise advance a significant work-in-progress. The winner of the fellowship also receives a residency at the American Academy in Rome.
Submissions for the fellowship are accepted in even-numbered years from September 1 to February 15, and an entry form is required. To obtain the guidelines and entry form for the fellowship, please follow the links below or send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the Academy. In odd-numbered years, submissions for the book prize are accepted from September 1 to February 15. Publishers may submit translations published anytime in the past (not necessarily in the year of the judging), but only books by living translators are eligible. Self-published books are not accepted. The decision of the judges is expected by June 2013.
The judges for the 2013 Fellowship are Barbara Carle, Victoria Surliuga, and Anthony Julian Tamburri.
The Raiziss/ de Palchi Translation Awards Fund was established through a bequest to The New York Community Trust by Sonia Raiziss Giop, a poet, translator, and long-time editor of Chelsea. The Trust has selected the Academy to administer the
award.
