Poetry & the Creative Mind
Each year during National Poetry Month in April, the Academy of American Poets presents a gala celebration of poetry's important place in our culture, and its impact on the lives of readers. The event—Poetry & the Creative Mind—is held at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and features leading and legendary actors, dancers, artists, musicians, and public figures on one stage sharing their favorite poems.
The always inspiring evening is a benefit that raises funds to support the educational programs of the Academy of American Poets, including resources for teachers on Poets.org, the Dear Poet project for K-12 students, and materials created and distributed to 125,000 libraries and classrooms for National Poetry Month, which was established by the Academy in 1996 and is now the largest literary celebration in the world.
Last year's event, the twelfth annual Poetry & the Creative Mind, was held on April 24, 2014. Special guest readers included National Student Poet Michaela Coplen, Rosie Perez, Billy Crudup, Parker Posey, Tina Fey, Esperanza Spalding, Patrick Stewart, Kevin Kline, Meryl Streep, Juliana Margulies, Carrie Mae Weems, and Drew Nieporent, with master of ceremonies Chip Kidd.
The next Poetry & the Creative Mind will be held April 15, 2015. For more information, please contact email@example.com.
