The Academy of American Poets was one of the first organizations in the United States to showcase poets in public readings. When the Academy of American Poets launched National Poetry Month in 1996, we made sure Poets.org was a place where individuals from across the country could find information about how to celebrate poetry in their community—from New Hampshire to California—as well as learn more about local poets, events, workshops, bookstores, and publications. On our Poetry Near You pages, this is still true!
