Human Rights Day 2018

Tomorrow is Human Rights Day, a global observation of the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Two years later, the Assembly passed resolution 423, inviting people to recognize December 10 of each year as Human Rights Day.

Human Rights Day calls for people to share in a sense of awareness of various assaults against human rights that take place around the globe, as well as a sense of empathy for those victims of injustice, intolerance, violence, and fear. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon says, “Upholding human rights is in the interest of all. Respect for human rights advances wellbeing for every individual, stability for every society, and harmony for our interconnected world.”

For Human Rights Day, we consider the importance of art, especially as it addresses the human condition and fosters that sense of "harmony for our interconnected world." Browse poems about social justice and find out more about what you can do this Human Rights Day on the United Nations’ website.
