October 13, 2016 (New York, NY)—This year, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Endowment for the Humanities, we teamed up with EDSITEment, the National Endowment for the Humanities’ educational website for K-12 teachers, students, and librarians, for Incredible Bridges: Poets Creating Community, a monthly series of lesson plans featuring multimedia of poets reading their poetry.
Once a month since February, we’ve premiered a brand-new lesson plan featuring poets like Naomi Shihab Nye, Claudia Rankine, Juan Felipe Herrera, Richard Blanco, and more. This month we conclude our series with a lesson plan featuring the poem “Remember” by 2015 Wallace Stevens Award winner Joy Harjo. The sequence of lessons, which also explores Native American heritage and culture, is designed in a way to allow students to enter and experience the poem in multiple ways.
