Every April, on Poem in Your Pocket Day, people throughout the United States celebrate by selecting a poem, carrying it with them, and sharing it with others throughout the day. Take a look at how these innovative schools and libraries are celebrating this year.
- A high school teacher in the Philadelphia area is giving her students extra credit for bringing in their favorite poems and sharing them with the class. They will be handing out poetry in the hallways and will use those poems to decorate a "poet-tree" with hand-crafted ornaments and the sidewalk in front of their school in chalk.
- The CBU Plough Library in Memphis, Tennessee, is handing out pocket poems at the checkout desk.
- Students at the Library Media Center in a K-5 school in Arlington Heights, Illinois, selected poems and made their own pockets to carry them all day.
- Third graders at a school in Long Island, New York, shared their pocket poems with first graders.
- Eastern Kentucky University's Model Laboratory School in Richmond is preparing with our collection of easily printable poems.
