The Pinch was founded in 1980 under the name Memphis State Review. It is a nationally recognized literary journal published by the University of Memphis. Its name is derived from the historic Pinch District in Memphis, once a residential area for Irish immigrants and Jewish merchants. It publishes poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art by both established and emerging writers.
