The Oregon Arts Commission was established in 1967 to foster the arts in Oregon and ensure their excellence. Through arts education programs, publications, cultural planning, and grants, the program works to ensure that the arts are available to everyone. The Commission also hosts the Poetry Out Loud competition, which encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance and competition. More than 200,000 students across the country take part in Poetry Out Loud.
