Individual Artists of Oklahoma is committed to sustaining and encouraging emerging and established artists in all media and thus, in addition to hosting art exhibitions, offers poetry readings and classes. IAO's Poetry Committee encourages and supports poetic experimentation, the development of multimedia and performance poetry, as well as perpetuating poetry within the literary tradition. IAO also fosters a community that links poets and poetry with artists in other genres.
