Founded in 1923, the Alabama Writers' Conclave holds an annual summer writing conference and an annual writing competition. The winners are published in the AWC's journal, Alalitcom. The Conclave is also responsible for nominating, for the governor's appointment, the Alabama State Poet Laureate.
