2018 Dodge Poetry Festival

For the fifth time, the largest poetry event in North America, the Dodge Poetry Festival, will return to Newark, New Jersey. For four days, Newark’s vibrant downtown Arts District will host the Festival, featuring some of our most celebrated, diverse and vibrant poets and spoken word artists.

Former U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera, Pulitzer Prize-winners Sharon Olds and Gregory Pardlo, as well as much-published and award-winning poets Sandra Cisneros, Sapphire, Eileen Myles, Ntozake Shange, Henri Cole, Gregory Orr, Mary Ruefle, and David Young, will be giving Featured Readings during the Festival and are among the dozens of acclaimed poets who will participate in the four-day event, which takes place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and other venues in Newark’s Downtown Arts District from Thursday, October 18 through Sunday, October 21, 2018.  

And from October 18 through 20, 2018, the Academy of American Poets will present the award-winning and esteemed poets who serve as Chancellors of the Academy of American Poets at the Dodge Poetry Festival. Join Elizabeth Alexander, Ellen Bass, Marilyn Chin, Kwame Dawes, Forrest Gander, Linda Gregerson, Marie Howe, Brenda Hillman, Khaled Mattawa, Marilyn Nelson, Alicia Ostriker, Alberto Ríos, and David St. John for readings and conversations on How to Read a Poem, Poetry and Democracy, Eco Poetry, American Poetries, Poetry and Storytelling, and the Poetic Line.
