Dear Ms. Hirshfield,

My name is Hazel. I am twelve years old, I live in Waterville, Maine. April is a month of poetry, and here at Mount Merici, we are reading lots of poems! Poetry is one of my favorite subjects, so I am very excited.

Your poem, “Three Foxes by the Edge of the Field at Twilight”, is my personal favorite. I really liked how you used animals and nature in your poem. It reminds me of taking a nature walk with my friend and telling her secrets along the way. I have a few questions to ask you. In what season was your poem supposed to be? What inspired you to write poetry? Finally, is your poem based on something that happened in real life, or is it made up?

Sincerely,

Hazel
