Dear Jane Hirshfield from Esperanza

Dear Jane Hirshfield,

I really love your poem and love how descriptive you are. You have amazing imagery, and because of that I can see the foxes in the field moving around. I love how sincere you sound, and how devoted you seem to your writing. I do have a question though about when you state, “I wish I had thought to put my face to the grass.” Were you referring to you, or to the foxes? My last question would be if you have really experienced the foxes or if you came up with the poem? When I was reading your poem I thought of how when I walk down town I see people and would wonder about if they are good, happy, sad, or bad. That experience made me think of you and the foxes. I really love your poem and thought it was perfect.

Sincerely,

Esperanza
