Each year during National Poetry Month in April, the Academy of American Poets presents a gala celebration of poetry's important place in our culture, and its impact on the lives of readers and artists working in other disciplines. The event—Poetry & the Creative Mind— takes place at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and features leading and legendary actors, dancers, artists, musicians, and public figures on one stage sharing their favorite poems. The April 2017 event featured Meryl Streep, Uzo Aduba, Elizabeth Alexander, Wayne Brady, Maurice Hines, Madhur Jaffrey, Sebastian Junger, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Amanda Palmer, Meg Ryan, National Student Poet Joey Reisberg, and more.

The always inspiring evening is a benefit that raises funds to support the K-12 educational programs of the Academy of American Poets, including resources for teachers on Poets.org, the Dear Poet project, and materials created and distributed to 100,000 libraries and classrooms for National Poetry Month. The evening is made possible in part by ABRAMS, Andrews McMeel Publishing, Papyrus, our exclusive media partner WQXR, and other generous sponsors and donors.
The 16th annual Poetry & the Creative Mind gala will take place on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Tickets will go on sale closer to the date of the event.
