In the past five years, the interest in poetry and its audience has grown. In response, on November 5 to 7, for the first time, leaders from sixteen nonprofit organizations dedicated to promoting and presenting poets and poetry will meet at the Lannan Foundation in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to discuss their mutual efforts, as well as how they might make poetry even more visible and find new supporters for the art form.

The Academy of American Poets is pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 American Poets Prizes, which are among the most valuable poetry prizes in the United States. This year the organization has awarded over $200,000 to poets at various stages of their careers.

This fall, The New York Public Library and the Academy of American Poets will present a free series of four conversations exploring how different art forms engage with poetry. These conversations will pair some of today’s most intriguing poets with accomplished artists, dancers, chefs, and actors. The monthly series includes events with Claudia Rankine and artist Carrie Mae Weems, with a special introduction by Elizabeth Alexander (September 9); Mark Doty and choreographer Bill T. Jones (October 19); Kevin Young and chef Gabrielle Hamilton (November 19); and Sharon Olds and actress Cynthia Nixon (December 11). Events are free and open to the public, but online advance registration is required.
