Voices & Visions: A PBS Series

Voices & Visions: A PBS Series

Voices & Visions explores -- through interviews, archival footage, and readings -- the lives and works of some of America’s greatest poets. Newsweek called the series "the most ambitious, most expensive and most accomplished series of films ever made about American poetry."

Each of the thirteen sixty-minute documentaries focuses on a different American poet and attempts to present both a biographical picture of the poet’s life and insights into the poetry they created. The series is split into three volumes, each consisting of four to five videos. Volume one features Hart Crane, Ezra Pound, Walt Whitman, and William Carlos Williams. Volume two showcases American women poets Elizabeth Bishop, Emily Dickinson, Marianne Moore, and Sylvia Plath. The final volume portrays T.S. Eliot, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, Robert Lowell, and Wallace Stevens.

Produced for PBS by the New York Center for Visual History (1988-2000). Not Rated.
