On May 11, 1994, poet Octavio Paz gave a reading at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in celebration of his eightieth birthday. To commemorate the event, the Academy of American Poets and the Mexican Cultural Institute published a chapbook featuring a poem by Paz and poems by several other esteemed writers: John Ashbery, Joseph Brodsky, Bei Dao, Richard Howard, Mark Strand, Charles Tomlinson, and Derek Walcott.
The chapbook is letter-pressed, saddle-stapled with wraps. It is 24 pages long, and measures 9 inches tall by 6 inches wide. Recently retrieved from the archives of the Academy, it is now being offered to the public for the first time since 1994.
