1988. Introduced by Anne Wright. Reading selections from her Pulitzer prize-winning book Thomas and Beulah and from Grace Notes, former Poet Laureate Dove reads poems that are, as Wright indicates in her introduction, "operas of celebration, love, and loss." Warren's poems are, according to Wright, like "paintings" that fluctuate between the feverish energy of a Turner and the precision of cubism. She reads a broad range of meticulous and elegiac poems that were later collected in Stained Glass, which received the Lamont poetry selection prize. Length: 50 min.
