1976. Introduced by William Meredith. In the midst of his service as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress, and on the formal occasion of his receiving the fellowship of The Academy of American Poets, Robert Hayden gave this resonant reading. A number of these poems are from American Journal, which was nominated for the National Book Award in 1978. This includes his famous "Elegies for Paradise Valley." Hayden also reads earlier works, including "Soledad," "Monet's 'Waterlilies,'" and "'Mystery Boy' Looks for Kin in Nashville." Length: 69 min. |
