1964. Introduced by Robert Lowell.
This reading offers a careful selection of poems from In a Green Night, the book that prompted Robert Graves to say that "Derek Walcott handles English with a closer understanding of its inner magic than most (if not any) of his Englishborn contemporaries."
This is a historic recording, with Walcott captured at the outset of his career. His status as one of our contemporary masters was confirmed in 1992 when he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Length: 57 min.
