Poet Carrie Howson will let you peek through the doors at the meetings of a club which originated when several prominent writers gathered in 1855 to found a literary magazine - The Atlantic Monthly. They so enjoyed each other's company they decided to meet monthly, and they periodically invited select friends to join them.
Among the members were Oliver Wendell Holmes, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, James Russell Lowell, Richard Henry Dana, John Greenleaf Whittier, William Dean Howells, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry James, and scientist Louis Agassiz.
Offered to our community through the generosity of The Lifelong Learning Institute ("LLI") at Caldwell College in partnership with Caldwell LIVE and the Caldwell Public Library as yet another way to support The Big Read of the Poetry of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, this hour-longclass will be held over two consecutive weeks in The Gene and Kathryn Collerd Local History Resource Room on Thursday, March 4, and Thursday, March 11, 2010. |
