Seven award-winning poets will gather for the Academy's annual Awards Ceremony. The event will feature Gerald Stern, Claudia Rankine, and all the winners of the Academy's seven major awards and prizes.
Gerald Stern will be accepting the $100,000 Wallace Stevens Award for lifetime achievement, recognizing his outstanding and proven mastery in the art of poetry.
Of Mr. Stern’s work, Toi Derricotte, the lead juror of the Wallace Stevens Award Committee, said: “You know a Gerry Stern poem when you hear it. His is the voice that captures, as no other poetic voice I know, the feel of song. You turn to their songs inside you. They make your heart dance.”
Other honorees who will be present to accept their awards and read from their work include Claudia Rankine (Academy Fellowship), Mary Rose O'Reilley (Walt Whitman Award), Barbara Jane Reyes (James Laughlin Award), Ann Snodgrass (Raiziss/de Palchi Fellowship), and Anne Winters (Lenore Marshall Prize).
