Armory Center for the Arts, 145 N Raymond Ave, Pasadena, CA

Red Hen Press invites you to join us at the Armory Center for the Arts, whose mission is to build on the power of art to transform lives and communities through creating, teaching and presenting the arts. The Armory Center for the Arts has been at the forefront of art education in southern California for more than 60 years. Past readers include Ron Koertge, the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and California Arts Council, whose work has been honored by the American Library Association and has received two PEN awards, Douglas Kearney, whose The Black Automaton (Fence Books, 2009) was a finalist for the PEN Center USA Award in 2010, and Brendan Constantine, poet-in-residence at the Windward School in West Los Angeles and 2002 nomination by the Poetry Super Highway for Poet Laureate of the state of California.

This event will feature:

Gary Geddes has written and edited more than forty books of poetry, fiction, non-fiction, drama, criticism, translation, and anthologies, and won a dozen national and international literary awards, including the Commonwealth Poetry Prize (Americas Region), the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence, and the Gabriela Mistral Prize from Chile, which was awarded simultaneously to Octavio Paz, Vaclav Havel, Ernesto Cardenal, Rafael Alberti, and Mario Benedetti. When not serving as Distinguished Professor at Western Washington University or Visiting Writer at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, he resides on Thetis Island, British Columbia.

Rex Wilder’s poems have appeared in publications such as Poetry, The New Republic, The Yale Review, and The Times Literary Supplement. He is the author of Waking Bodies, which takes “the tired English of everyday use” and brings it “back to us refreshed and full of its original surprise,” according to Billy Collins. Wilder is editing an anthology called There and Back, featuring original boomerangs from a diverse range of poets around the world. He is the Chief Creative Strategist for Advertising for Humanity, a marketing firm specializing in charities and community foundations. He lives in Brentwood, California.

Cecilia Woloch is the author of five collections of poems, most recently Carpathia, from BOA Editions Ltd. She is the recipient of an NEA Fellowship and is currently a lecturer in the creative writing program at the University of Southern California, as well as the founding director of The Paris Poetry Workshop. She spends a part of each year traveling, and in recent years has divided her time between Los Angeles, California; Atlanta, Georgia; Shepherdsville, Kentucky; Paris, France; and a small village in the Carpathian mountains of southeastern Poland.
