Kundiman is an organization dedicated to the creation and cultivation of Asian American poetry. This evening features a reading by Joseph Legaspi and a spoken word performance by fellow George Yamawaza, among other literary offerings. Hosted by April Naoko Heck.

Joseph O. Legaspi is the author of Imago (CavanKerry Press) and Subways (Thrush Press), a chapbook. Recent works appeared in Poem-A-Day from the Academy of American Poets, jubilat, South Dakota Review, Gay & Lesbian Review, diode, CURA, and the anthologies Language for a New Century (W.W. Norton), Collective Brightness (Sibling Rivalry Press), Flicker and Spark (Low Brow Press) and Coming Close (Prairie Lights/University of Iowa Press). He co-founded Kundiman (, a non-profit organization serving Asian American poetry.

George Yamazawa Jr is a 22 year-old Japanese-American poet/emcee born and raised in Durham, NC. After being expelled from high school and dropping out of community college, “G” has become a 2010 National Poetry Slam Finalist, 2013 Kundiman Fellow, and has toured across the country and Europe sharing his story.
