Cave Canem’s Oralizing: The Speed of Spoken Thought
Featured Poets:A program of “Blink Your Eyes: Sekou Sundiata Revisited”
September 10, 2013, 7:30 p.m.
Langston Hughes Theater, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, 515 Malcolm X Blvd., New York, NY
Sekou Sundiata’s blues, as he once explained it, was a blues of transcendence: “That’s the ghost—the holy ghost.” Join talented artists— violinist Juliette Jones, composer/guitarist Marvin Sewell, electrosacred rhythmist Val-Inc, poet/playwright Dael Orlandermith, poet Tyehimba Jess and composer/event curator Karma Mayet Johnson—for an evening of im-plorational verse, sharp lyric narratives and synaesthetic texts. Admission: $10 General Public / $8 Schomburg Center Members. Co-sponsored by the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and MAPP International Productions.
Sponsored by Cave Canem, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and MAPP International Productions.
