NYC's Culture Project presents: Two Nights of Poetry-Inspired Jazz
Featured Poets:Gregg Kallor; Rose & the Nightingale
January 13, 2013, 7:00 p.m. to January 15, 2013
Culture Project, 45 Bleecker Street, New York, NY
Lovers of poetry will have the opportunity to either experience Kallor’s piano and lyrical compositions of Emily Dickinson and W.B. Yeats poems and/or Rose & Nightingale’s nature-inspired lyrics and compositions. Sunday, Jan 13: Gregg Kallor Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert Gregg Kallor, described by five-time Grammy nominee Fred Hersch as "an extraordinary pianist, a composer of great distinction and a true conceptualist...” gathers with friends for a benefit concert to raise money for Occupy Sandy- a coordinated relief effort to help distribute resources and volunteers to help neighborhoods and people affected by the storm. Tuesday, Jan 15: Rose & the Nightingale Rose & the Nightingale is four powerful New York based multi-instrumentalists and improvisers: Jody Redhage (voice, cello, compositions), Leala Cyr (voice, trumpet), Sara Caswell (violin, mandolin), & Laila Biali (voice, piano). The band’s warm sound of three part vocal harmonies, intricate arrangements, and burning solos has proven to cut through to a deeper level of connection with audiences.
