Appointed Maryland State Poet Laureate on September 29, 2009, Stanley Plumly has published nine books of poetry including In the Outer Dark, Out-of-the-Body Travel, and Old Heart. He has taught at a number of institutions including the University of Iowa, and Ohio University. He presently directs the creative writing program at University of Maryland.

Blackbird Poetry Festival’s “Nightbird” Features Taylor MaliThe Howard County Poetry & Literature Society (HoCoPoLitSo), in partnership with Howard Community College’s Office of Student Life, English/World Languages Division, and Arts & Humanities Division, presents the annual Blackbird Poetry Festival’s “Nightbird” at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23 at Smith Theatre, Horowitz Center, Howard Community College (HCC). Nightbird features Taylor Mali, one of the most well-known poets to emerge from the poetry slam movement.
