Idaho

Diane Raptosh was named Idaho State Writer in Residence in 2013. Raised in Nampa, Idaho she earned her BA at The College of Idaho and her MFA at the University of Michigan. Raptosh is the author of American Amnesiac (Etruscan Press, 2013), which was nominated for the 2013 National Book Award, Parents from a Different Alphabet (Guernica Editions, 2008), Labor Songs (Guernica Editions, 1999), and Just West of Now (Guernica Editions, 1992). She currently holds the Eyck-Berringer Endowed Chair in English at The College of Idaho where she also directs the criminal justice and prison studies program.

Out here, we don't talk about culture,
we think we are. We nurtured Ezra Pound
who ran from us like hell
and never came back. You
never came at all. You
will never know how clever
we never are out here.
You never drank red beer.
You never popped a grouse
under a blue
