It's National Poetry Month! Here are some upcoming events happening around the country.

Washington State Poet Laureate Events
Washington State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall has announced a series of upcoming appearances and activities celebrating National Poetry Month. Engagements include writing workshops, poetry readings, and keynote addresses throughout the state. Marshall will visit Vancouver, Richmond, Ellensburg, Seattle, Bellingham, Tacoma, Federal Way, Gig Harbor, Whidbey Island, Ritzville, and several other locations. Most activities are free and open to the public.

National Poetry SLAM!
On April 11, America SCORES will hold the National Poetry SLAM!, a celebration and fundraiser that showcases "poet-athletes." America SCORES is a national nonprofit organization that aims to improve the lives of children through after school programs. Thousands of children take center stage at regional Poetry SLAM’s! across the country for the opportunity to perform on a national stage. Thirteen poets will then perform at the National Poetry SLAM!

Lanier Library's Poetry Festival
Lanier Library in Tryon, North Carolina, will hold a month-long celebration of verse in April. Events include writing workshops led by four distinguished North and South Carolina poets, as well as events such as "Why Poetry? A Panel Discussion," and "Literary Open Stage."

Pitman Poems on Parade (PPonP)
During the month of April, the town of Pitman, New Jersey will display poems written by school children, residents, and community members in many of the windows of participating businesses, inside the McCowan Library, and at Pitman Manor. On April 22, high school students, along with the official PPonP mascot will parade to generate interest and awareness of the poems.
