Thank you to our sponsors and the many millions of teachers, students, booksellers, librarians, small press publishers, and especially poets, who helped make National Poetry Month the largest literary celebration in the world. In April 2014, National Poetry Month and Poem in Your Pocket Day was mentioned thousands of times in news publications throughout the United States, and many inspiring events took place in local communities. For example, one North Carolina based poet was able to secure 18 official mayoral proclamations declaring April as National Poetry Month. In Ohio, National Student Poet Sojourner Ahebee led poetry workshops for local students and helped poetry enthusiasts distribute poems in Cleveland. In Issaquah, Washington, a local writers group rallied local businesses to hand out poems on Poem in Your Pocket Day. For our part, the Academy of American Poets distributed event posters to more than 120,000 classrooms, libraries and community centers, and more than 1,000 young people wrote and sent us poems as part of our Poet-to-Poet project.
