In circulation since 1999, Tin House was founded by publisher Win McCormack, editors Rob Spillman and Elissa Schappell, and managing editor Holly MacArthur. McCormack said of the magazine’s beginnings, “I wanted to create a literary magazine for the many passionate readers who are not necessarily literary academics or publishing professionals.” The result is an eclectic and artful publication that features fiction, nonfiction, poetry, interviews, reviews, and featured columns, as well as spring and fall issues on themes like rejection, beauty, memory, and evil.

Read a sampler of poems from the Winter 2018 issue, featuring poetry by Grace Bauer, Kai Carlson-Wee, Kathy Fagan, Gerald Stern, Arthur Sze, Wendy Xu, and more.
