John P. Welle
Poet and translator John P. Welle, who earned his MFA and PhD at the University of
Indiana, has received grants and fellowships from the Fulbright Commission and
the National Endowment for the Humanities. In 2000, Welle and Ruth Feldman received the Raiziss/de Palchi Book Prize for their translation of Andrea Zanzotto's
work Peasant's Wake for Fellini's Casanova and Other Poems (University of Illinois Press, 1997).
He is also the author of The Poetry of Andrea Zanzotto
and the editor of Italian Film and Literature: Annali
d'Italianistica (1988).
He lives in Indiana and is Associate Professor of Italian
at the University of Notre Dame where he teaches modern Italian literature, film history, and
translation studies.
