There are many opportunities to commemorate family members, friends, or colleagues on a birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion. Gifts can be made in honor of a favorite teacher, for example, who was influential in developing your love of poetry. Such a gift can also be made in honor of a person who has made significant contributions or achieved a special milestone, or for the person who has "everything." These gifts are greatly appreciated by the people being honored and their families, as well as by the Academy.
A gift made in memory of a person who has passed away is a special way to honor a respected colleague or a beloved friend or family member. Such a gift creates a legacy and memorializes the person by providing direct support for an art form that he or she loved.
Naming opportunities include, but are not limited to:
Creating a named fund to help support a specific program or service currently offered by the Academy of American Poets.
Establishing a College Prize to recognize a student poet at an American university. These prizes can be named in honor or in memory of a special person.

The Academy of American Poets is recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under the Internal Revenue code and meets all 20 Better Business Bureau charity standards. Donations to the Academy of American Poets are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
