Advertising in American Poet

American Poet Launched in 1996, American Poet is the Academy's biannual journal, released in April and October each year.

Five good reasons to advertise in American Poet:

  1. New Design: American Poet received a gorgeous facelift in April 2012, making it much more reader-friendly and eye-catching. We've always celebrated the poet, and now our design truly reflects this.
Read a letter from our editor about the redesign >

  2. Big Numbers: The Academy of American Poets has the largest membership of any poetry organization in the country, and all of our members receive subscriptions to American Poet. 9,000 copies of each issue of the journal are distributed worldwide.

  3. Targeted Market: American Poet has an extremely targeted market: poetry readers and writers, students of poetry, some of the most renowned and respected poets of our time, and some of the nation's most generous patrons of poetry.

  4. Major Poetry Buying Power: Look at the reader profiles below to see how many books and literary magazines our readers purchase, how many teach either literature or creative writing, how many of them attend literary conferences, and more.

  5. High Receptivity: American Poet sets a limit on the number of ad pages available in each issue. With only twenty percent of a typical issue available to advertisers, American Poet never suffers from commercial congestion. We feel strongly that our advertisers benefit from this policy, as it greatly increases reader receptivity. We also view our ads as a service to our poetry community, and therefore only accept ads that we feel will be beneficial to our readers.
