Joanna Fuhrman

Joanna Fuhrman is a graduate of the University of Washington’s MFA program. She is the author of six books of poetry: To a New Era (Hanging Loose Press, 2021); The Year of Yellow Butterflies (Hanging Loose Press 2015); Pageant (Alice James Books 2009); Moraine (Hanging Loose Press 2006); Ugh Ugh Ocean (Hanging Loose Press 2006); and Freud in Brooklyn (Hanging Loose Press 2000). Her seventh book, Data Mind (Curbstone/ Northwestern University Press, 2024), is a collection of prose poems about the Internet. She has been the recipient of an Academy of American Poets Prize and the Joan Grayson Award. 

Fuhrman is a former poetry editor at Ping Pong and Boog City and served as the Monday night coordinator for the poetry readings at the Poetry Project at Saint Mark’s Church from 2001 to 2003. She was the Wednesday night coordinator from 2010 to 2011. In May and April 2022, she was the cocurator of the Segue readings at Artist Space. In the same year, she became a coeditor, with Jiwon Choi and Mark Pawlak, of Hanging Loose Press. Fuhrman is also currently an assistant teaching professor in creative writing at Rutgers University and lives in Brooklyn.
