Who does the speaker sound like? Gender? Age? Nationality? Region? Occupation? Level of education, sophistication or sanity? Era? Economic or social status?
Two common errors are to confuse "voice" with "tone" or "style". Tone involves how the speaker sounds: authoritative, angry, despondent, wistful, bereaved, confused, agitated, etc. Style involves common traits across poems by the same author or group of authors (e.g. "school"). New poets often speak of "finding their voice"; poems have a voice (and a tone), poets have a style.
Of course, one should never assume that the speaker's/narrator's voice or persona is necessarily that of the poet, even if the poem is confessional. The greatest poem of this century is a loving elegy spoken by a man to his male paramour. The poem was penned by a woman.
